Radio, speakers or both?

Hello,

I have a pre-owned 05 Envoy SLE. Factory 6-CD changer (not Bose). Volume is very low, even when turned all the way up. CD player is inop, so I'm going to change out the radio anyway.

I hear sound from all speakers when I play with the fader/balance, it just isn't very loud.

Is the OnStar box also the radio amp, or have nothing to do with the sound system? Or does the SLE even have an amp?

So, in addition to replacing the radio, replace speakers too?

Hate chasing down problems like this

Only one speaker usually works in my envoy. I just spent a few hours changing my front door speakers. From what I've researched they commonly fail. I'm halfway done, but the 2 I got installed work great! I'll do the back on my next day off. They were intermittent, but so far the new ones are sounding great!

BTW the low volume you hear are the tweeters. I don't think there is an amp.

Got the speakers swapped out. Sound still isn't what I think it should be, but better than it was.

If this model doesn't have an amp, then I'm thinking the radio itself may be messed up. On the upside, the CD player started working....

I am disappointed in the radio too! I think I'm going aftermarket. I want Bluetooth anyway.
