03 trailblazer gear shift not locking in park

I have a 2003 Chevy trailblazer EXT LT. I can not get it to lock in park so i can turn off the ignition. What could be causing this to happen and how do i fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

If the fuse is okay then there's a good chance it's the shift lock actuator. It's located under the shifter. Soda, coffee, etc tends to get spilled and can cause it to get gummed up. You could pull the trim piece that covers the shifter and try and clean the actuator up. Like recommended above, check the fuse first though.

I know this thread is old, but that was exactly my problem. Soda in the stick shift and it would not lock into park to get my keys out.

Thanks guys!

fix?

Were you able to find the problem. Mine 02 envoy does has the same problem. I've replaced the shift interlock and ignition switch but still have same problem.

I had my share of soda and crud but after cleaning my problem wasn't fixed
