Shady Dealer...
That's what I have here in Sierra Vista, AZ. Let me try to make a long story short (sorry, not really). I have an '04 TB with the I6, and 2WD. A couple of months back my "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I had the codes read and they said that my Second O2 sensor was bad. Being that it was under warranty, I took it to the dealer. He said there were codes that indicated other things were wrong that AutoZone wouldn't be able to read. I was told that only Chevrolet Dealers had the right equipment to read all of the compiled codes. HMMM... sounds like fecal matter to me. They ended up changing the second O2 sensor and Air pump. Air pump? That's the code that AutoZone never saw. In "MyGMLink.com" they also stated that they replaced the secondary Air Intake. (I'm getting there.)
Now I have a CAI on my truck that runs strait to the Throttle body. (I know you're thinking exhaust problem, how did he jump over to intake?) The dealer told me that the reason my Service Engine Soon light was coming on is because I needed to replace my CAI with the stock intake system for a little under $800 for the parts plus labor. I am told that the oil I spray on the K&N filter often goes to the MAF sensor and coats it, thereby causing other emissions parts to not behave properly (aka. O2 sensor in exhaust). Yah, right.
Well, five miles after I drove it away from the dealer, the service engine soon light comes back on. I get it checked out at AutoZone and I am told that now there is a code for the Secondary Air Intake System Malfunction. The tech said, "That's weird. I never see that." He pops the hood and looks inside. There is a hose on the passenger side of the truck that runs to my air intake. That had been disconnected from the intake, wrapped onto itself, and zip tied together (Closed off). I cut the zip tie, and reattached it to the air intake. The Service Engine Soon Light was reset, and did not come back on as I drove away.
I was quite happy. I found a shady dealership, caught them, and overcame their cheating ways. Or so I thought. :undecided The next day and 45 miles later, the Service Engine Soon light comes back on. Get it checked, and same code. AutoZone resets it, and this morning and 30 miles or so later, its back on again.
Now I'm puzzled and pissed. This is the line that went to the bottom of the air intake system on the stock setup and clipped in. (Sorry no pictures, but if you need them I will try to get them). I never had this problem before the dealership "fixed" it. It's funny that I develop an intake problem right after the service manager "recommends" going back to stock for a whole lot of money. (Especially after finding the sabotaged intake line). Here's my series of questions. Assuming the dealer has only been making honest mistakes crazy: ), what does the air pump (emissions equip) go to? Where does it pump air to or from? I thought it was into the exhaust to create a more efficient burn in the catalytic converter. Could this be a mistaken routing that somehow is connected to my secondary air intake system? If not, since my secondary air intake it no longer folded onto itself, what else might cause this code to come up and make my service engine soon light come on? How can I fix it without going back to stock? I ran the CAI for two years with no problems. It was only after the "fix" that the problems started. I am tired of this dealer trying to RAPE me!!! This is just one of one of a series of incidents.
Please give me guidance to fix my truck!!!
