Lightbulb 2002 Envoy ECAS failure fix

Just wanted to post this so anyone else with this problem doesn't go thru the headache I did. My 2002 Envoy with ECAS went on the fritz. Instead of spending a lot of money (1000's) to have the dealership fix it I went to autozone and purchased an old airshock repair kit ( they were great in the 70's) they had in the back for $14.00. Removed the compressor unit ( 2 screws ) and disconnected the air lines from it. I then cut off the brass fittings from the end of the lines and simply connected it to the t-bar connector that came in the kit with supplied connectors, applied about 60lbs of air (adjust to your desired height) and cleaned up. It took about 30 mins. Make sure you remove the fuse for the ECAS located under the hood on drivers side fuse box ( fuse 1 ). Sounds crazy but it works great and only cost $14.00.

more to come

This fix has worked perfectly for the past few weeks. I am going to make it even simpler. When disconnecting the lines from the compressor , I should had just linked the existing air bag lines to the tire inflater line ( with brass compression fittings) so pressurizing the air bags can be done from the existing valve in the back cargo area. When I complete this I will post pics with exact specs on what type fittings and line I used to complete> This should make it even easier to do because the fittings can be obtained about anywhere and last longer.

Isn't there a recall out there on the ECAS? At least there is for my 02 Bravada. I am not sure what kind of failure you had or what the recall is supposed to fix, but just wanted to see I guess.

I had the recall completed on my Envoy and it had to do with stalling the vehicle, didn't cover compressor or sensors. I worked in a multiplex dealership as a used car manager so I had all recalls and any warranty work completed on the vehicle before it went out of warranty. Thanks anyway.
