Battery Guage

Ok so Im driving home just now from long Island (from video taping the worst wedding ever!!) and noticed something strange...about every few minutes or so my battery guage would drop down 4 notches very quickly then climb back up. When it dipped the cluster would dim then brighten back up. the truck didnt stutter or stall or lose power mechanically at all so im wondering what that was...never happened before unless I didn notice it but Im pretty good with that little stuff...my eye went right to it...any suggestions?? I am almost at 32,000 miles in only a year and 4 months...alternator? battery?

You're still under warranty. Let the Dealer worry about it. It's most likely the alternator or voltage regulator (which is integral to the alternator).

Just out of curiosity, how much do your underdrive pulley(s) slow down your alternator? Amp output from the alternator drops relative to rpm, although it climbs quickly to the rated amp output from idle. If the alternator is running too slow and the amp demand is higher than the output, it will draw from the battery at that point. I'm just wondering if the pulleys are creating a situation where the battery is being worked more than normal and if the dealer may not honor the warranty on the charging system. Anyone with some more knowledge on the charging system and operation want to chime in? I'm just curious if it might be related to some long term effect of the pulleys.

My 07' TBSS owner's manual has something about how the charging system works. Sounds about the same as posted.
