Whining noise

Hi guys my dad has a 2006 TB SS with about 45k on it. Ever since he bought it there has been this kinda weird whinning noise coming from the engine when he accelerates and we have always assumed it was the intake/ air cleaner or something. Kinda was sounding like the noise a turbo would make. Not sure if this is normal. Nothing has gone wrong yet but when he went top the dealer the mechanic got all nervous and said to bring it in so they could check his transfer case. Just checking to see if anyone else gets this noise and to worry about it or not?

It happens on all of them. It is the Alternator pulley clutch..... nothing to worry about.

Is the noise related to engine rpm or vehicle speed?

Mine does the same..2005 TB LS with about 43k on it. Definitely coming from the engine area and is associated with RPM. Whether rolling or not, in gear or park or nuetral, gets higher and louder as I increase RPM's.

Any ideas? It's been like this for a while now..since I started using 4wd this winter.

Eeek! Didn't realize this was the SS forum..just clicked on this thread from search results. Will post in the regular forum..te-he-he

Trailblazer Siren/whining noise.

It simply drove me nuts. It started very early on. I have a 2006 with only 45k miles and it started around 20k.

Fix is as described above.

Part used: Dayco Idler Pulley
Part Number: 89059
Price: 20.49 + tax
Store: Advanced Auto Parts

Link = http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_542589891___

In my case the washer fit just fine.

I went to Lowes and bought their breaker bar as follows:
1/2 Breaker bar (the 3/8 one was too short to get any leverage)
1/2 to 3/8 reducer

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...502&lpage=none

The same tool will come in handy replacing the belt, alternator etc.

Wrong tool will cause you nightmares. Trust me I tried in Spain to take a belt off without a breaker bar and it was a nightmare.

So for 50 bucks ( that includes a new tool) NO more whining.

It was like night and day!

Thanks only to the good folks in this forum was I able to get it done in ten minutes and done right. So thanks a lot. Which is why I decided to tell my story. So that others can rest assured that the guide contained in this thread is simply awesome!!

Thanks a million!! Too bad folks from other countries are not as kind as those from the good old USA.
