is there anyway to change the 2002 steering wheel buttons to the newer buttons? the newer models have a source and track up and track down button, while us 02 guys are just stuck with the up button, no down/reverse is available.

you can change the physical button but its goign to do the same thing it used to. the top "big" buttons end up as a signal on one wire at the steering wheel harness. I hypothesize that this signal is decoded by the bcm and the relavent messages are sent via class2 bus to hvac or radio. thats just my guess. if that were the case then its probably near impossible.

I would suggest spraying a clear coat over the new buttons before installing them to help prevent them from getting worn down quite so fast.

on mine, the paint didn't wear off; the painted plastic layer started bubbling and eventually cracked leaving a white circle. first the big buttons did it and i replaced them, now the bottom ones are doing it. I don't have a clue why they'd do that.

Jimmy- Probably because you are in FL where it is hot all the time and the interior heats up and probably causes the paint ot bubble.

I too wish that when I hit the AM/FM button I could access the Changer, and that I could change tracks up and down. If anyone gets it done, please let me know!

Sorry to revive a three year old thread- but I'm also looking for replacement steering wheel control switches for my '02 Bravada. I searched gmpartsdirect but the only ones I found were for the second generation ('95-'01) models.

Anybody either have the part numbers or another source to find these switches? TIA

Here's the part numbers:

1999490 - Radio control
1999499 - Heater Control
21997738 - DIC Trip/Fuel
21997739 - DIC Settings/Reset

BTW: These didn't come up for the Bravada in the GM parts catalog - that's why I couldn't find them initially.
