Oil change light
I just read the answer to this earlier today and I think I found it by doing a search on this forum for Resetting Oil Light. Anyway, if I remember right, it said that you have to reset it yourself after each oil change or pay a dealer around $60.00 to do it. I think it said to do the following:
While sitting in vehicle, turn off the vehicle and remove the key. Then open the door and close it (stay inside though).
Next, reinsert the key and turn it on (not the engine- only turn the key til all the dash lights come on).
Within five seconds of turning the key on, depress the gas pedal 3 times and the light should start flashing. Supposedly this means it is resetting. After the flashing stops it's now supposedly reset.

he is right.... unless u have the driver information center (DIC) u can delete it with the buttons on ur steering wheel. if u have the DIC go to where it says % oil left and then just hold the select button down till it resets to 100

How many miles are you guys putting on before the light comes on? Is there any way to turn it off permanantly? I have put 7000 miles on my TB since I bought it used and no light yet. According to the sticker in the window, I have put about 9000 miles on it since the last oil change. I figure it has to come on soon. Does it come on while driving or only during startup?

mine comes on after starting the vehicle and goes out after a few minutes so i never really care to reset it. i keep my oil change mileage on paper and never use the 'built in meter'

I have yet to have mine come on but then I reset it every 5000 KM (3100 MI) when I change my Oil.
At 9000 MI, your close to 3 times the mileage for an oil change. Hope you just mean since the reset. Not to bust your b@lls but you would be looking at long term problems

Nope, havent changed the oil in 9000 miles. Thats not what bothers me, I always went 10,000 intervals with all my other vehicles and have well over 100K them and close to 200K on some of them with no issues. Im just wondering if the oil change light can be turned off permanantly? Seems like it should have come on by now. It comes on as do all the other warning lights upon turning the key forward, but goes immidiately out once all the other lights go out.

Nope, you are wrong. GM spent a LOT of time and $$ designing this system. Many of us have gone over 10K miles with no problems. Check out Rbarrios - he has gone over 10K and even had an oil analysis done. No problems whatsoever and I believe he is at 120 some thousand miles. Do a search on OLM on this site alone.
3K is very OLD school. These engines run much cleaner, hold 7 quarts of oil and the oil is MUCH better than it was back in the 60's when the 3k OCI started.
FWIW the manual states if the light does not come on in 1 year, to change the oil regardless of the mileage. I think a few people have had it come on around 11 - 12K miles.
To answer the question above - I don't think you can turn the light off permanently. Unless of course you took the bulb out!
