I just got off the phone with true flow. The tube is a breather hose for the smog pump so it breathes filtered air and lasts at least 10 years per govt specs. He's gonna send me out a small filter to put in there and i just zip tie it to the side so the smog pump will still breathe clean air and I'm in business. I'm gonna install the cai tonite and the hose won't affect the way it runs or make the check engine light come on. Great service from true flow with no hesitation to send me the filter. So, if anyone is installing one of these on an 05 or newer, u will need that filter from true flow and they're sending it to me free of charge. They've earned my business.

Dave

I had my True Flow for a while and I love it. I had the same problem but they sent me the same little filter and I bought and extra one from autozone.

Great write up!

..^.Its an 03 LS. It's really not that bad. a simple short wash will take all that stuff right off.

Also, here is the dyno sheet provided by True Flow for the I-6 unit. Max 7 hp gain at about 4250 rpm. The intake also should put to rest whether a CAI adds anything right off idle -- this one sure does both horse power and torque curves are higher right in the driving range. Throttle response is also much better from seat of the pants driving experience.

Mods, you might want to paste this image onto my main thread post. Thanks!
Not to down the product but I had a base dyno done on my TB to get a before and after when my exhauste is done. Made 3 pulls from the first pull to the last pull there was a 7-10 rwhp differance . Thats from the oil temps going up and oil getting thiner. I'm sure there had to be some type of a gain but I have seen a gain just from making a back to back pull

I get it... Dyno runs are not the complete answer, and another one might show more or less gain. At least in their case, they show back to back pulls with stock intake and their intake.

Seat of the pants from my installation?

It works well with the other mods I've made -- sort of the finishing touch. Throttle response is better, mid-range is better, and when I get with the program, it lets me know that my mods have worked out. My truck is a world of difference from where I started, performance wise. It is a hoot to drive it now, and after my mods, I now have to take care nailing it. I never had to when it was all stock. I'm happy...

Biggest problem I'm having now is keeping my foot out of it...

very nice write up!! I sent you a PM frederick with just a couple of questions. Forgive my stupidity though as I am not good with cars. When you say to do a 'resonator delete', what exactly does that mean and how do you do it?

Update: I found the True Flow CAI on Amazon (model #10500) for 127.99. Im a prime member so shipping is free for 2nd day or 3.99 for overnight. Not a bad deal since you had mentioned they are in the price range of 299.00

That is a good price... I'd say it is worth that. the list price is a tad steep, but it compares to K&N and others. I'd still do it, even if I had to pay full price, the modification is worth it IMO, but a lower price makes it that much more attractive.

I replied in a PM, but for the sake of the thread, the "resonator delete" means I removed the factory exhaust resonator -- that big coffee can thing hanging in the back of our exhaust system. No big HP adder, just a bit more free-flowing and a tad more sound.
