I have been trying to get hypertech to do one. If you go to their website and do a request for products and we get enough people to also they might make it

Just have the PCM tuned by PCM for Less. Same deal -- less money.

Adding on tuners after the PCM will just cause the PCM to start adjusting parameters to return to a stock tune and eventually the advantages are gone. Several have tried. They don't really work well with our engine management systems.

Just wondering how its different than say on my 97 Trans Am. Before I had done all the major mods I was running the Hypertech and liked it. I know I will probably go with the pcmforless tune when I have the money, but hate either not having my truck for a week and sending in mine or doing the case relearn with one that would be shipped.

Your 97 Trans Am was an OBD I engine management system. Similar to a Radio Shack Color Computer versus a Core 2 Duo PC when it is compared to the sophisticated OBD II system onboard the TrailVoy machines now.

There IS another option for the PCM for Less. For a small fee, they will send you a loaner PCM that does not require a CASE relearn to drive around on while they flash your own. That's what I did. Swapping them took all of 10 minutes, plus the security relearn.

'96 was the first model year for OBD II, I did have it with my '97. Does'nt the hypertech store your program and use its stored programming just like a pcm for less tune? It's not the same as a superchip plug in. I just like the idea of being able to pull the program out if I need to take my truck in for service and not send the pcm in. And Firebear I did see your thread and it gave me the itch and if I just had money burning a hole in my pocket.

Perhaps... But they don't build one.

The dealer cannot see the "tune" from PCM for Less. And PCM4L flashes the newest factory package into the PCM when they do their work.

If the dealer does re-flash and wipes out the tune, PCM4L will re-load it for less than the original purchase price. Check with them. I'm not sure that is really an issue myself, but I know some guys are worried about it. Guess one would actually have to take the vehicle TO the dealer in order to have this sort of problem...
