flex fan and service intervals

This is actually 2 questions. I researched some but couldn't find exactlty what I was looking for. My wife has a 2006 TB with the I-6 and 47 k on the clock. I noticed here lately it has developed a slight whining noise when driving. Sort of like a whine from a powersteering pump when you have your wheel turned all the way to the stop. When we purchased the car it DID NOT make this noise. After looking over some stuff I found nothing. Only thing that I question is the flex fan. To me it seems really loose. I can grab it and move it up and down slightly. Its difficult to explain... it doesnt seem to have play in it but seems to move some...like that makes sense. Anyways, Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this on the 2006 and up TB's?

My second question is what did your dealer perform on the 50K service. I contacted 4 different dealers in my area and received 4 different answers on service and price. Price is what really made me jump. It varied as much as 300 bucks. I just want to know what the basics are and what people are paying for it. Thank you very much for any help.

Check the actual shaft to the water pump. See if that wiggles.

The whining could also be the idler pulley or tensioner pulley.

It"s time to change fluids and that gets expensive. I paid $400 for Trany diffs and transfer case change.

Thanks. I'll recheck when I get home from work today. Hopefully nothing bad is going on.

What gets me on the service is not all dealers were the same. I would think chevrolet has a set order of item to check and replace. Not 1 dealership gave me the same items. Maybe these guys are shady........

At 50K I did the rear diff and trans service. I since learned that the t-case was due at 50K as well.

Other things to check and service as needed - clean throttle body, air and fuel filters, oil change.

You should also check the owners manual and see what is actually called for. Compare that to what the dealers are telling you what they need to make their boat payment.

I will look into the service manual and see what It calls for. Today after rechecking the tension on the serpentine belt and looking for play on the fan shaft I came up with nothing. I can't seem to figure out why all of a sudden its making this whining noise. My wife doesn't seem to notice it but I can hear the car coming and going.

I checked all fluids as well and found the tranny to be a little low....I think. I know it says to check when hot. I started it up and let it come up to temp then drove around the block 2 times going through the gears. When I got back on level ground its still on the cold mark. Says it needs to be on the crosshatch area when hot. Maybe I didn't get it hot enough. Going to recheck when the wife gets back from the store.

Back to the whining noise. It drives me nuts. My mother had a cougar that did the same thing and I could never figure out why she drove it. One of the things that I liked best about the TB was how quiet it ran.
