spark plug boot

I had a check engine light go on and took it to have the code read which said i had a misfire in cyl 3. I went to the parts counter at pepboys and they proceeded to sell me 6 new iridium plugs and 6 boots. i asked the guy why i should change the boots and he told me they go bad. upon inspection i determined that theres not much that can go bad with these things. yes? no? whats the opinion of the forum? should i return the rest of these boots? the old one doesnt look bad to me. After all its just rubber and a heavy gauge coil? and at $4.99 each that would be $30 bux in my pocket.

I would return them. I haven't read anyone replacing them. I have even tried 3 different sets of plugs over the past year before just settling on the Delcos and never once had an issue.

UPDATE-------
changed the plug and upon inspection noticed nothing wrong with the boot but.....the plug shot. the tiny tip was completely gone essentially doubling the gap. i just changed the bad one today because it was way too cold for these tired hands. but as soon as i have a nicer day the rest wll be changed as well.

I have had a boot fail.

Water in plug #4. Others have changed the coil (which includes a new boot). I bought a new boot and reused the coil.
Fixed the leak and all is good.

The boot can fail it it gets wet. The spark will short to ground and burn the boot.
