Smell of raw gas!

2-3 times now in as many weeks, I have smelled raw gas upon cold startup of my Envoy. Like it says above, 2002 Envoy regular wheel base. 129,000 miles.

No puddles (I'd imagine gas would evaporate), but definately the smell is in the cabin - only after I start it cold, it goes away after a few minutes. Its not super strong, but its very noticeable. I replaced my fuel filter in July 2009 (this past summer). I checked it and everything is tight and there was no trace of gas at the filter.

Any other common places I should be looking?

EDIT: I just realized I topped off my tank yesterday...I didnt pay attention to the other times this has happened.. but I wonder if its only happening on a full tank too??

Thanks captain obvious

Are there any common leak zones I should be checking specifically?

I dont have an XL version, so I didnt think the top of the fuel tank/fuel pump rust was a problem for the short wheel base folks, like me.

it does apply to you actually. the extended warranty does include the 2002 SW Trailvoys. Considering your in Michigan I would take a look into it. my 02 bravada was affected by it, had the same situation, fixed for free. worth looking into.

Nope, still doesnt apply to me.

I just looked at the letter GM sent me, dated October 2008 - the warranty on the fuel tank/pump/lines ended at 120,000 or 10 years, whichever occurs first; I have 129,000 miles.

My 'voy smells like gas when I first start it on cold mornings too and it also goes away after a few minutes. I just attributed to running rich because of the temperature. I would think if it was a leak, it would smell all the time.

reach ur hand up to the top of the tank around the fuel pump and see if u feel any liquid... there was a recall saying the top of the pump would rust up in the rust belt... forgot exactly what its called... think its in site info thread...

Sorry , was obvious to me, but didn't know your skill level.
Top of tank, the seal/flange of pump/sending unit. The metal flange is a known area. But, of course any line can rot.

Not sure that this is a normal thing, but you are probably right.

Is the smell comig from the engine? Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Mine was leaking, no drips because fuel was evaporating. Easy fix.
