ignition switch will not release key

greetings, fellow Trailvoy members . any input would be appreciated. the ignition switch will not turn to the off position and release the key in our 2003 TB. it may be a problem with the shift lock solenoid. when the lever is in park and the engine is running, i can push the button and shift the lever without depressing the brake pedal. i can lock the lever by pushing it forward and maintaining pressure but still can't get the key out. anybody have any quik tips on how to free the key?

These Trailvoys if the battery is dead the ignition will not release the key. Try putting jumper cables on the car or check battery connection.

Thank you for your suggestion, ibidu1. I double checked the battery voltage (it's good) and checked some fuses. No problems there. Then I went and checked some other posts. I was able to find the outline of the access hole for the column key release on the lower steering column cover. I used a dremel tool to drill and shape the hole. Then I partially pried apart the covers until I could see the brass-like plunger. A push with a pencil on the plunger while turning the key and out it came. Now to find out why the ignition is not switching to off. If and when I find the cause , I'll post it.

I was going to suggest the release method, which you already found...
