2004 Radio Wiring Diagram

Hey Everyone,

First post on here. I am trying to fix my stereo, my friend said he knew how to install my audio system and now my head unit wont turn off with the truck. I have to manually turn off the stereo. I need to get a hold of a wiring diagram of the radio and figure out what he messed up. Any Help is much appreciated. I have a 2004 TB.

Mike

Did your friend use an adapter for the install? Only way to get an aftermarket radio to turn off. Run a search or read the stickies, (I think there's one that discusses adapters.) They sell them even at Walmart, but you have to know what to ask for.

There is no switched or acc wire behind the radio. if your talking about the orange acc wire at the ignition harness , yea you can go there for it but its not worth loosing factory functions that are ran threw the radio. get a gmos-01 and be done with it the correct way.

If you have onstar and use it and like to hear chimes when you leave your lights on or when you dont wear a seatbelt use the gmos-1. that will keep all factory functions in your TB. If your not worried about that i would just tap into the ignition harness. That is how mine has been ran since day one without a problem.

Just to sum up the above posts, the obvious issue is that he connected both the switched and constant power wires from the radio to the vehicle's constant power - hence why it doesn't go off. You need to run a switched ("ACC") power wire to the radio's red power wire, while leaving the yellow constant 12V wire as is. You can do this by either using an adapter box (generally the GMOS-01, ~$75) or more cheaply and easily by tapping into the wiper fuse ($5).

There are a few gm's newer than 2000 that have a switched power source behind the radio. Most are turned on by a data wire which is why you go to the ignition harness or by the gmos.
