Steering Wheel Position Sensor

I have been reading a lot about steering wheel position sensor failures and the recommended solution has been to replace them. Has anyone looked into exactly why they are bad? Are they getting dirty? Is a part of them wearing or burning up? If anyone has a bad one I'd sure like to take a look at it here in our shop.

I had to have mine replaced twice so far. Both times it was reading the wheels were turned at an impossible angle when they were facing staight ahead. the dealer did both of them(2 different dealers) so I don't have the sensor.

I read an article somewhere from a guy who works in the electronics field. He stated that the problem is the cheap connector that is used and in time the connection fails. He said that he soldered the wires directly to the sensor and never had a problem after that...Mike.

That sounds about right. It is worth giving it a shot on a $125 part.
