Looking for comments and thoughts around the Cowl hood vs the Ram air hood? I like the looks of the Cowl hood but was wonder about the performance. Also looking for links to purchase the hood...
My experience with these styled hoods in other vehicles indicates to me that performance is probably a wash with either one, so select for style.
About the cowl induction principle:
The base of the windshield is a high pressure air area, so the air gets in as good there as from a front-facing scoop.
On my off-road Explorer, I used a small eBay plastic hood scoop facing backward and pointing to the cowl area, and even with that had noticable change in air flow and throttle responsiveness, even though I was still pushing the air through the factory air box with a True Flow filter.
On my earlier Chevelles, the cowl induction was a worthy addition, and after 7 different cars with various engine setups, I found the cowl hood worth the cost to install for performance sake.
Of course, we know that front-facing scoops work well also. That is a natural expectation from anything facing into the wind.
4.2/6 cylinder engine Ram-air upgrade, Only Fits Goodhoods Non-Returnable
This dyno-proven functional ram air upgrade adds 6 HP and 14 foot pounds of torque or more when used with this Keystone functional ram-air hood. It can also be used with any stock or aftermarket hood but without ram-air effect. Easily installed in place of factory air cleaner box. Only Fits Goodhoods Non-Returnable. Stock #GH-GBXTR
It's a heat extracting cowl, which means that it allows the hot air to excape from under the hood. This will allow cooler air to be drawn into the intake. God bless! Scott
Just wondering... Wouldn't this be a bad idea? since the whole idea of a cowl hood is to expell (get rid of) the engine heat. Not sure why you would want the hot air from the engine being sucked back into the engine...
I love my ram air hood... Great looks and performance too... A little searching, or some mid-level mod skills you can make your own intake for half the cost of these, and still be fully functional...
I'm primarily looking for a hood scoop or cowl induction type hood to help lower under hood temp and possibly help me run cooler when towing. Any advice on this?
id go with the cowl induction, simply because the design allows for extraction of heat while supplying fresh air into the intake, now if we could only get him to tell us where he got it.
anybody try the keystone, that was my original idea, cuz it reminds me of the camaro style, but no one seems to have it.appreciate feedback, i even posted a thread, is it that bad of a hood?
Did anyone ever find out where csc06ss got his hood or his front emblem? or is that one of those CIA things where if you got told,,,youd have to be taken out?? LoL
Would love to have one of those hoods for my 08 TBSS
i did find it, and he wants 780+ for the hood, add in shipping, paint and so forth, and the front emblem is there to.the company is "center cross customs", its
this is where im buying mine(stylin trucks), its on special for 609, and the shipping depends on ur local, but summit had said 700 shipping, and hes getting it to me for half....wo hoooooooooo:crazy:

last time i contacted Viz racing... they told me there carbon fiber hoods are non functional... they are just there for looks.. no ram or cowl or anything... u would have to custom make it into a ram air or cowl..
also i believe u would have to add some supports to put in the stock latch...
i dont know who viz racing is, but the hood from stylin trucks is a keystone hood, and the hood from cross states that its functional, true or not i dont know....

the ilovebodykits.com thats the one i am talking bout...
yea the styling is a keystone... the old keystone hood which is true ram air... but i bleive they stopped making that one for there series 2 ram air which i'm still looking at...
sadly, they dont make that one anymore, that was my first choice, but when i spoke to the rep at keystone he told me the only one still available is the camaro ss style, and that one because its still selling well to the tb ss guys.:sadcry:i know that sucks, but at least we have the other style to choose from, and now the cross peaple have there style out, so it all depends on what u want style wise, im going with the ss style because i like the lines.
i just rechecked on there site, but its not offered only the ghg205(camaro ss style)...ima call 2morrow to verify that way, ill post, but when i called in november 09 it wasnt available.:hopeless

i finally ordered the keystone hood with the ram air cai kit, from stylintrucks.com. its on special 606, about 20 buck diference and they priced match 310 the cai kit so its all good, and he got me a good deal on shipping, 350 compared to 700 from summit, overall its about 1270 without paint, but ill get her done, hopefully by march the hood is set up, first im going to try the cai kit by itself, and then when i get the hood done ill put it on later.
I have the MPD Hood from eric and I like it very much.
