Car Reliability Survey results

Updated TrueDelta Car Reliability Survey results were posted recently for the 2002, 2004, and 2006 TrailBlazer and Envoy. In all three cases, though, the sample sizes were small, which probably explains why the 2006 result was "worse than average" while the 2004 was "better than average" and the 2002 was "average." Another possible factor: GM vehicles often compare better as they age.

We'll have further updates in May, August, and November, hopefully with larger sample sizes. With more participants we could provide the sort of highly precise results we're providing for the Lambda large crossovers. (We have over 200 responses for the 2007 Lambdas. Repair rate is now "average.")

We now have a separate results page for each model. The one for the TrailBlazer and Envoy:

Because the sample sizes were small, the results are asterisked and only visible to members on the site itself. Hopefully this will change with the May update.

In a few weeks we'll start previewing the next set of results to participants. The more we have, the better the information we can provide to everyone here.

We've updated the results for the TrailBlazer, Envoy, et. al. to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006: 92, about average

2004: 79, about average

2002: 106, about average

In all three cases the sample sizes are small. But the consistency among the results suggests they are reasonably accurate.

A big thank you to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

Updated results again later this month.

We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful.

We've updated the results for the TrailBlazer, Envoy, and other GMT360s to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006: 115, worse than average

2004: 98, about average

2003: 61, better than average

2002: 17, better than average

The sample sizes were small in all four cases, which likely explains the highly inconsistent results. With more participants, these would even out.
Everyone who has been helping, thanks, I appreciate it. We'll have further updates in February and May. If you haven't already signed up to participate, I hope you will. With more participants we could provide full results for all model years.

We've updated the results for the TrailBlazer, Envoy, and other GMT360s to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2006: 94, about average

2004: 114, about average

2003: 44, better than average

2002: 35, better than average

The sample sizes were small in all four cases, which likely explains the highly inconsistent results. With more participants, these would probably even out.

A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. If you haven't already signed up to participate, I hope you will. With more participants we could provide full results for all model years from 1995 on.

Owners of the 2005 have an overly large tendency to sign up to participate, and then not actually participate ;(

For the May update we're currently two responses short of the bare minimum with the 2005.

Clearly, even a few more participants per model year would be very helpful.

2003: 40, better than average

2002: 49, better than average

The sample sizes were small in all cases, which likely explains the inconsistent results. With more participants, these would probably even out.
