P0335 & P0340 Codes

My check engine light just came on and codes P0335 and P0340 are active. The guy at the parts store who checked it said they are codes for the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor. I have a hard time thinking that both went bad at exactly the same time.

I have been having occasional issues with the ignition not wanting to crank the engine when the key is first twisted. Normally twisting a little harder does the trick on the 2nd or 3rd try. I have read that the ignition switch can go bad and cause other seemingly unrelated issues to pop up.

I replaced the PCM this past winter after it was shutting the engine down. Since then, it has been running well. The only other issue is the occasional puff of blue smoke from the exhaust when first started.

What is a recommended course of action to figure out the root cause of the codes and check engine light?

I had the same codes show up two years ago, and had the same reasoning that you do...it's unlikely that both these sensors would fail at the same time.

I replaced the ignition switch module and it resolved the problem. (Simple 15 min job...there are "how to" instuctions on this site or on uTube).

Unfortunately, my Envoy just died....no crank/no start....and I have the same codes again. So I purchased another ignition switch, but it didn't help this time. I think I need to replace the starter from what I've read.

Well, I replaced the ignition switch and the check engine light cleared due to having the battery disconnected. I will wait and see if it comes back again.

I now am having troubles getting my Envoy to crank quite frequently. The same codes have come up, so I replaced the crank position sensor. That doesn't seem to have helped, so I am now planning to replace the cam position sensor. When it refuses to crank, the dash lights up but the starter does nothing. I would think the starter was bad, but I never hear any solenoid clicking. Up to this point, repeated attempts to start will get it going, but it can take a few minutes to get it there. Am I missing something obvious here?

Same issue here. My Envoy ran fine yesterday, now it won’t crank. It throws both codes. I agree it seems illogical for both sensors to die simultaneously.

I think my battery may be getting weak. I threw the charger on it for a few minutes, and it started right up. No codes. Iíll run and get the battery checked at Autozone later today.

I ended up replacing the cam position sensor, but still had trouble starting. I replaced the starter and the issue went away. However, since then I ended up having issues with it not wanting to start on crank and I replaced the ignition switch again and it seems to have fixed it. The ignition switch I put in from Oreilly was less than a year old.

By the way, if you have to replace your starter, plan on a few hours. It is a bear with the 5.3.
