Steering wheel movement

i have the steering wheel movement while driving. its not a vibration but the left, right movement. is that a front end alignment issue?

Depends how much Steering Wheel Play you have. There is always some, but if your mentioning it, it must be alot. 75% of the time its steering linkage play, the other 25% is Steering Rack/Box Play. In either case, an alignment wont fix the problem without first finding the source of the movement.

a left to right movement, when you let go of the wheel, is most likely in the tires.

Did you ever find the cause of your play in the steering wheel? I took my truck in 2 weeks ago for an alignment. Then the steering wheel wasn't straight. I took it back and then the steering wheel was still not straight and now there is a lot of play in the wheel too. I took it back again and they replaced the steering shaft? The non-straight wheel and the play in the wheel is still there. I just took it back this morning and they are telling me it's because my truck is lowered. This is BS. I didn't have any of these problems until they aligned the truck. I am pissed and they are just screwing with me. I plan on contacting the better business bureau!

well, an alignment won't cause play in the steering unless they left the lower control arm adjustment bolts loose but other problems would have arised. I've done a bunch of re-alignments to my truck after all the wheel/suspension changes and have no play in the steering. However, they could have over-torqued the jam nuts on the tie rods causing them to twist and make the socket widen slightly but highly unlikely considering the PITA design of our tie rods (you need 2 wrenches to lock the jamnut)

I am also having a dead zone steering off center, mine seems to be the u-joint in the tilt column. I will probably end up having to replace the entire column if I cannot gain access to the u-Joint.
