Head Unit Issues

In my 04 Envoy Xl all of a sudden the headunit display is blank(even though I can see the time using tuner button and was able to eject cds and red security light blinks). No sound or factory chime.
Tried with another Factory unit same issue. Tried with an aftermarket unit using a PAC rp5-GM11 harness adaptor and the unit turns on but still no sound. checked the #11 amp fuse and its good. Question is what could it be?
The actual factory AMP possibly? Any suggestions or advice welcome.
