exhaust. Bakersfield California

I'm in Bakersfield California and still want to be smog legal I've owned nothing but older cars and want to know about moving the bulky heavy stock exhaust and just having it cut and welded under rear passenger door what appears to be 2 huge chunks of metal one by passenger door and other by the back bumper. Sounds restrictive and looks like garbage
Its not gonna be stock for long

Do the 2 huge chunks of metal resemble a muffler and a resonator?
