Tires for 20x8 wheels...

Hey guys,

I've searched and come up with no definate answer so I'll give it another shot. Just wondering if anyone has run a 275/45/20 tire on their SS wheels or any other 20" wheel with an 8" width? Only reason why I ask is because everywhere I look, the recommended wheel width for these tires is 8.5 - 10. Looking at eventually getting some SS wheels and didnt know if I should just stick with a 255/50 tire or if I can get away with using a 275/45 without any problems with mounting, rubbing, and such??? Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

they can be put on a 20x8 but it won't look right IMO. the side wall will pull in slightly. They will be a bitch to mount as well. You can get thrm on an 8 inch wheel though.

Thanks Foop for the reply. My only other consideration I guess would be a 265/45. I've been using a tire calculator and those are the only 3 sizes that I have found to stay close to the height of the stock 17's I have now but using the 20 inch rim. I know I definately dont want to go any taller than they are now but also dont want to sacrifice ride quaility or get to low of a tire so I dont damage a rim if I hit a pothole or something. Dont know what to do...

265 45 would be my choice. If you are that concered investigate you options in that tire size more. Some of the lower profile tires have 5 and 6 plys. Also I believe toyo has low profile SUv designed tires. Check out tirerack dot com. I have been thinking about going to a 265 45 in the rear just a lil wider. good luck

I saw a 275/45 put on an 8" wide rim on Horsepower TV a while back. Looked great. You'd think they'd be careful recommending combinations that are unsafe. I'll be very tempted to go 275/45 when my stock tires wear out.
