Probably is caused by a bad stepper motor. Does speedo return to its correct resting position when key is off?

Speedometer

It usually does. Only a couple times it didnít go to zero. Iíve had several issues with the car doing weird stuff when there is the tiniest bit of corrosion on battery terminals. The speedometer works most of the time and Iíve cleaned the terminals and it works again for awhile.

You don't, you replace it. That's what it always is. Youtube has videos of how to do it and Amazon and ebay have the kit to do it. The only other options are to live with it or replace the whole instrument panel cluster. $$$$$
