Question Engine started after connecting battery cable and no key in the steering column

I have 2 weird issues regarding the electrical system of my trailblazer.
1) Could not turn off parking lights
2) Engine starts with key switch in off/lock position
I had a dead battery with a 5 volt reading, the parking lights are on and could not find a way to switch them off, the battery charger could not charge the battery with that power drain. I disconnected the battery and did a 18 hour battery charge.
When I connected the negative battery cable I could hear a few click and ticks, and then about 4 seconds after tightening the cable… the starter begin cranking the engine and the engine started running.
I did not have the key in the steering column and the position of the key switch is in the lock position.
This is a movie script in the making.
I put the key in the key switch and turned it to the on position and then turned it back off, the engine continue to run. WHY?

Two possibilities, Bad ignition switch (GM has been plagued with these for years) or there is corrosion on the bottom side of the underhood fuse box. Change ignition switch first, it is easier.

Issue resolved

This issue has not reoccurred, the battery has been kept at full charge since posting this issue.
I am assuming that the computer becomes confused when the voltage drops below 8-9 vols for a period of time. I had to disconnect the battery in order for the charge to re-charge the battery. I also assume that when I disconnected the battery to charge it that the confusion faded away.
I consider this issue resolved.
