The good old fan clutch.. Oh the memory and shame.. I didn't get the loaner tool from Autozone to hold the water pump pulley bolts.. Instead I thought I could shock the fan nut by hitting the big spanner with a 4lb lump hammer.. a bright idea.. Well the follow thru' took the filler cap off the radiator.. And that was my shame cos I knew better..

Replacing fan clutch may not change behavior.

Replaced my fan clutch about 5k miles ago, cause it was staying stuck mostly on and periodically throwing the error code for it. This fan clutch design by GM is a weak point of these trucks. It is normal to find it on sometimes as you describe, and my new one does still engage sometimes. No more error codes for me, and engages much less frequently. Annoying sound and a power thief! I did not have the vibration associated with it as you describe, and hence why I thought you were describing a problem linked with bad motor mounts. Should have realized the drone sound you stated, which I often say sounds like a jet engine roar.

Compared to the US Navy F-18’s that fly over my house daily..the noise this fan clutch is more like a droning/vibration than jet noise..lol I’ve got the fan clutch and it’s being replaced tomorrow afternoon. (It’s nice having a mechanic as a best friend..all I have to do is put gas in my old Cherokee that he now owns.) Getting a winter kit together for the Envoy..snow and ice is coming so it’s time to get supplies now and not the day before a storm hitting. This is the first vehicle I’ve owned with the AWD option so it’s going to be fun learning how it behaves..I rarely used the 4wd on the Cherokee mainly because of how people drive around here. Any tips??

Well that was an easy job to do...took my friend all of 45 minutes to change out the fan clutch. Discovered the droning/vibration I’m hearing and feeling is coming from the dash..Kris, my mechanic friend, says it might be the blower motor. The fan works on all speeds, no problem changing from heat to defrost and I’ve got good heat so it’s on to more troubleshooting. I haven’t really noticed a change in the Voy since changing out the fan clutch other than the heat seems warmer and it’s gets warm faster than before. I’ve had my truck for almost 4 months now and so far I’m impressed with her..definitely an upgrade from my old Cherokee. Granted I do miss the old Jeep sometimes...that cranky brat was fun to drive but I don’t miss spending the money to keep her on the road.

Hi everyone! I have an odd question...is there a separate key for the drivers side door? I’m asking because I made some extra keys for the Voy and discovered that they are just for the ignition. I’ve got the keyless entry with the fobs (one doesn’t work even after changing the battery but that’s another topic for another day) but would like to be able to get in the Voy if I lock my keys in her and don’t have other fob handy.

1 Key opens everything. Fob must be programmed.

Ummm..the key I received when I bought the Voy back in July that has the GMC logo on it doesn’t open the door. That’s why I was confused because this is the first time I’ve had this problem..had one key for the ‘98 Cherokee and my ‘03 Expedition that worked for the doors and ignition. 🏻🏻
