4WD SS?

What are the pro's/con's of AWD vs 4WD? Right now my AWD has no traction issues, but with the Vector tune apparently the front[s] will spin, and with a TC added to it all wheels can spin. The JGC SRT8 is 4WD. Stock for stock, I don't think it's much problem. But in a modified TBSS it sounds like AWD (3WD?) isn't enough. How expensive/impossible would it be to make a TBSS 4WD? Just daydreaming of 500+hp and 4WD.

Does anyone know what the ratio in our AWD SS is? %front to % rear or is it 50/50?

The AWD system continually shifts power through a Torsen T-3 transfer case. It can vary the torque from 25/75 fr/rear to up to something like 60/40 fr/rear.

As for the AWD question, both setups can transfer power in the rear from side to side, but I dont know if the Jeep can do it front to rear. I assume it can, but I dont know for sure. The SS can transfer power from front to rear and side to side (in the rear only).

Maybe I'm way wrong here, but isn't the difference between 4WD and AWD a front locking differential to engage both front wheels? Didn't know it had anything to do with a selectable low range?

No your wrong there. AWD is all wheels all the time 4WD is selectable. Virtually no 4WD's come with a locking FRONT diff.

I thought I read the SRT had a front locker. Can't find where I read it though, but I'll keep looking.

If the GC SRT-8 has the same trans as the GS Limited with the Hemi then I think the AWD system can go from front to rear as well as side to side and is capable of sending 100% engine torque to any one wheel. That's what I liked about the GC Limited when I was shopping for a new SUV.
