mirror

Put the new mirror in and it works great right off the bat. I just need to set the compass but it works great. The auto dimming works too, So, we learned that 07 and newer must use a different wiring code to the back of the mirror. The under hood wiring I did just as directed above. thanks for all the help.

I am digging this mod and would love to do it. couple of Q's first....

2008 TB LS - manual mirror with Airbag lights currently.

I would like to have auto dim, compass, and temp. are they available without the onstar buttons?
if I Can ONLY get one with the onstar buttons are there any issues to look out for?

I read a few people installed ones with the PHONE feature. what is this for?

thanks for the HOW-TO !

If your current mirror has the 16 pin plug, you can use whatever mirror you can find. You can get one with Onstar, it just won't work. You don't have Onstar on a 2008? It was standard on my '06. Huh. Anyway, the phone feature is part of OnStar, but I remember at one point you could tie it in with a Verizon plan, but you MUST have onstar for it to work

If you want one without the onstar, and don't care about the airbag indicator, I think this would work:

[EBAY]120499742088[/EBAY]

Also, on the 2008 and 2009 models, the connector in the firewall is different, but the pin locations used are the same from what I am told by those that have done the mod on newer TB's.

mirror

Not sure but all the ones I've looked at that had the auto dimming also had the On Star. So if you want that you may have to stick with the On Star ones. That's what I just did. Try looking for one out of a pickup or other suv made by GM. Mine came out of a Saturn so they are interchangeable but it must be a 06 or newer to work. Good luck.

Any idea what the parts cost (minus the mirror)?

If I under stand the directions correctly, I am just extending the wire harness to the front correct?

It is on like page 3 of the thread, IIRC. For the sensor, harness, and pins, I paid $42, but others have gotten them for less.

Correct, you will need to extend the wires on the harness to get to the plug in the firewall.
