Just got back from the junkyard where I got a mirror out of an 03 Silverado and a sensor with the connector on it for $37.00. It is installed and working like a charm. I did have to calibrate the compass, but that was easy.

For anyone looking to add a mirror with the air bag sensor, compass and temp, the part number is 15176974. These are about $441.00 from the dealer. They also have the auto dimming feature and no Onstar controls. This was a very popular option in the 2003 Silverado.

Thanks for the write up and help.

Cool my mirror just came today, 40.00 delivered. Got it plugged in and compass came right on, just need to calibrate it. What is it you do? Drive counter clockwise?

Can't wait for my other parts to get here so I can hook up the temp.

The calibration process is in the Owner's Manual. It involves holding the ON button until it says CAL (IIRC) then driving slowly in a circle until it's happy.

Zone?? Bought the truck used, no owner manual.

Thanks...

Never mind I found the owners manual in the resource center.

Question for you guys. After you changed to the new mirror did the cover that hides the wire fron the headliner to the mirror still fit? It would seem with the mirror I have now the cover is too short.

Not a big deal but just can't figure out what is different with this mirror.

Oh, that's sooooooo good you found that. Garfield was just waiting to pounce and "remind" you gently about getting a PDF.

Can't see compass

I have the 2008 trailblazer with onstarcontrols on the mirror, I see the 16 pin connector attached to the mirror but I don't see a compass display. I can't even see where it would be on the mirror.??? Is there a way to get the compass working?

Thanks

There should be a button on the mirror that turns it on and off if you have the featire. If your mirror does not have a small black window in the upper right hand corner, you do not have the compass or temp feature

If there is a little window, then you should have the compass. There may be a small button in the front of the mirror with a circle on it. If so, press that. Here's a picture of mine (with the circle button on the left)

Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris, that picture was very helpful. I don't have the power button, I only have 3 onstar ones. Might have to keep my eyes open for a used one.

Cheers
