MAF acting up causing all kinds of crazy stuff

Well I think there's something wrong with my MAF. I was driving to Kansas City last week and my check engine light came on. All the gauges looked ok and the gas cap was tight so I kept going. Got there and all the way home with the light on but it ran ok except the mileage was down.

Spoke to Alvin and he suggested cleaning the MAF since I have an air intake. I bought some CRC MAF cleaner took the intake all apart and cleaned the MAF. I left the battery unhooked for awhile to reset everything. Started the TB up and now it shifts so hard it feels like I'm getting rear ended and the check engine light came back on.

Alvin said if the MAF is throwing a code the computer will go to default and tell the tranny to have max line pressure.

Sooooo, I think I'm going to put my stock air intake back on and take it to the dealership and let them look at it. Hopefully it's the MAF and they replace it w/o any grief under warranty.

I'm starting to think that the more mods I do, the more problems I have!

This is usually the case...

Sorry about your issues.

I resemble that remark.

Maybe an overdose of Zaino on your truck is the cause of your problem

Well I thought maybe it was something with the tune which is why I contacted Alvin. He suggested cleaning the MAF first just in case it was getting oil buildup from the air filter.

The hard shifting really had me puzzled but Alvin explained the default mode to me. Seriously, it shifts so f-n hard that you think someone rear ended you! Coming home last night driving in traffic, the 1-2 shift is so hard my headlight pattern jumps up on the car in front of me!

I've already had it diagnosed twice by Onstar and the code they are getting is for the MAF/air intake.

I'm only a year into my factory warranty so I'll let the dealership fix it. They've always been cool about mods on all my vehicles but I'm going to put the stock intake back on just to be safe.

My neighboors Grand Am had all kind of problems when he put an oiled K&N filter on his car. The oil built up on the MAF, and messed with his tranny hard. He cleaned it, but it happened again. The simple (and only) fix is to get a normal paper filter.

I've heard many times about people over oiling K&N filters. I've never cleaned my filter so it's still factory oiled.

I've put cold air intakes on almost every car I've ever owned and this is the first time I've had a problem.

I'm wondering if the MAF didn't maybe go bad?
