2008 V6 Envoy running A/C causing less power?

Now I know that just buy my title everyone would say yes but hear me out.

My '08 has always run great even when I have the a/c on the whole time I am on the road. However, this year I have noticed that the engine, while still running great, seems to be working harder to accelerate even on flat level surfaces and I can sort of hear the engine working harder when I hit the gas.

Now the car has over 150k miles and everything still works great. What I would like to know is what factors could cause the engine to work harder? It has been really really hot here lately which could cause the engine to work harder. Since I am over 150k would changing the spark plugs make a significant difference? Can anyone out there offer any other thoughts on this? I have also checked the air filter and its fine too,.

Thanks very much.

You have surpassed the 100K miles major maintenance milestone by 50K miles.

Spark plugs should be replaced (with AC Delco 41-103 Iridiums), throttle body needs cleaning, front rear differential fluids need replacing, transfer case fluid needs replacing (every 50K miles) (AutoTrak II).

Poor engine performance can also be from a clogged catalytic converter, and they can be prematurely be clogged when the engine is not running at the correct temperature (210 degrees on the dash gauge, 195 degrees actual).

And, your engine is not a V6, it is an inline 6 cylinder.

Thanks for the info. Besides the plugs, the throttle body was replaced last year so I don't think it needs to be cleaned. Yes the fluids you mentioned need to be changed.

As for the engine temp, the only thing I can see is the needle on the temp gauge and it never goes past the middle and it never waivers. It is always solid in the middle.
